On Plane Swing Rehearsal

The Tip: 

This drill will help you get a feel for an ‘on plane’ golf swing. When a swing gets ‘off plane’, compensation is required. A swing with lots of compensations will not repeat on a regular basis.

Position a club on the ground parallel to the target line. Now, take a set up and swing the club back to the 9 o’clock position. (See below) When the club is parallel to the ground, it should also be parallel to the target line.

Continue turning the shoulders, when the club reaches the top of the swing, it should be parallel to the ground, and parallel to the target. (See below)

Start the downswing by rotating the hips, when the club reaches the 9’oclock position, the club shaft should be parallel to the target line. (See below)

Post impact the club should extend towards the target, and remain parallel to the target line. (See below)

As the wrists hinge in the follow through, again the club shaft should become parallel to the target. (See below)
