Pitching

The Tip:

When pitching always use a Sand Wedge, this is due to the fact a Sand Wedge has bounce. If you hit the ground slightly early the club will bounce off the turf and still make contact with the ball. The other clubs don’t have bounce; therefore if you hit the ground early the club will dig into the turf.

With the Sand Wedge selected, play the shot in the following way.

  • Position the ball in the middle of your stance. Aim your feet slightly left of target.
  • Try and keep your lower half still, swing the club back with your hands and your arms.
  • The amount of wrist hinge will depend on the length of shot. The longer the shot, the more wrist hinge is required.(Maximum 90 Deg)
  • When the backswing is complete, rotate your hips through so you finish facing your target with all your weight on your left foot.
  • At impact, keep the left wrist firm and never try and scoop the ball into the air.
